Calling this “an unprecedented time for health IT,” a new report by the National Association of State CIOs (NASCIO) explains that “the backbone of achieving lower costs, better health outcomes, and system interoperability relies on an enterprise view.”
The way to such a view, in terms of the Medicaid enterprise, is through CMS’ recently-released Medicaid IT Architecture 3.0 (MITA) – which NASCIO describes as both an evolving initiative and a framework.
The nine benefits MITA 3.0 can bring to states are:
+ Participation in health reform
+ Alignment with federal grant requirements
+ Improved enterprise architecture documentation
+ Support for consumer assistance
+ Enhanced prevention and wellness
+ Increase business relationships
+ Enhanced performance reporting in managing the Medicaid program
+ Improved return on state IT investment
+ IT alignment with Medicaid priorities
